Online Course
A free, ten week online training course will be offered to all competition participants. The purpose is to assist participants with writing the radio scripts.
Participation in the course is voluntary. However, we do recommend that everyone follow the course since it will provide valuable knowledge about the writing process. For those with very limited internet access, the course will be available on CD-ROM.
The course teaches you step-by-step how to create a radio piece about a healthy community initiative and produce the piece for broadcast. You will need to share your radio piece with us in script format.
The course covers the following:
· Understanding healthy communities
· The 8 steps of the story-based approach to radio scriptwriting
· Some ideas on who can help you find out about healthy community initiatives
· Using the internet for your research
· Developing a focus statement for your script
· Understanding different radio formats
· Conducting better interviews
· Putting your radio piece and script together
· Writing for the ear
· Writing better introductions
The course includes individual and team activities designed to check your knowledge at various stages of the course. By participating in all activities, you will be better prepared to apply what you learn to your own script.
The training course can be completed in your own time and at your own pace. You don’t need to be online at the same time as other participants.
