Behind the scenes

The Radio Scriptwriting Competition on Smallholder Farmer Innovation is organized by Farm Radio International, a non-profit organization based in Ottawa, Canada.
For thirty years, Farm Radio International has been working in partnership with radio organizations in sub-Saharan Africa to promote sound agricultural standards and improve food security for smallholder farmers. Today, more than 300 radio organizations in 39 countries are part of our network.
Radio reaches more people than any other mass medium and is a trusted source of information. By using radio as our method of communication, we’re reaching farmers and their families even in isolated rural communities. Partner organizations receive Radio Scripts and the newsletter Voices free of charge on a regular basis in both English and French; the news and information service Farm Radio Weekly is published online every Tuesday morning and provides rural radio broadcasters with up-to-date news and resources.
We also offer training opportunities for broadcasters and are currently carrying out a three and a half year action research project measuring the effectiveness of radio on farmers’ livelihoods.
